Valentine’s is a not well celebrated in this household. But, I wanted to make some fun food for the kids to enjoy, aside from our usual heart shaped mini pizzas! I decided to make a quick tutorial to share with you. Hope you enjoy!!
First things first, you need to preheat the oven to 375F and gather the ingredients: Won ton wrappers, nutella (or your chocolate spread of choice), a parchment paper covered cookie sheet, in this case, a heart shaped cookie mold and a spoon – not pictured was a small ziplock bag. I found this one thing to be extremely useful!
Next up, take out one of the wrappers and put the cutter on it, to act as a kind of mold. I needed it so I would have enough room for the wrappers to seal together.
This is where the small ziplock bag comes in useful! Use the spoon shown above to fill the bag with the nutella. Seal the bag, and cut one tip off and use it to pipe the nutella onto the wrapper, using the cookie cutter as a guide. Don’t put it against the edge of the cutter, you need a little space for the wrappers to seal.
Using a small amount of water on the end of your finger, paint around the wrapper lightly with water, making sure to get along the edge of the nutella. Then place a second wrapper over the top of it and smooth it down, making sure to push out any air bubbles.
Place the cutter back over the heart shape, making sure to get a decent amount of room between the filling and the edge of the cutter.
Use the cutter to cut through both the wrapper layers. Discard the side pieces.
Use a fork to press along the edges. This may not be completely necessary, but I didn’t want to take a chance, and besides, this makes it look pretty!!
I then used a smaller heart cookie cutter to cut extra little hearts to stick on the front. They stuck there simply because of the water I put on the bottom of the shapes. When done, slide the cookie tray into the preheated oven and bake for about 8 minutes or until they are golden brown.
When they are done, take them out of the oven and place them on a plate. These taste great with ice cream, or as I did them above, with a light dusting of confectioners sugar.
My girls and Hubby LOVED these. They disappeared quickly, and they have been requested repeatedly since. Simple and tasty good!
